Church Relationship Manager

What is a Church Relationship Manager?

A ChRM is a tool for the relationships between members, the layer a church management system was never built to see. It complements a ChMS rather than replacing it.

The short answer

A Church Relationship Manager, or ChRM, is software built around the relationships between members, the connections that actually predict who stays, rather than the record of each member's transactions with the institution.

For thirty years, church software has been Church Management Software, or ChMS: tools that track how each member relates to the institution. Did they attend? Did they give? Are they in the directory? Those are real, necessary questions, and good ChMS platforms answer them well. A ChRM answers a different one: who is actually connected to other people here, and who is slipping away unnoticed.

ChMS or ChRM: two layers, not two rivals

A ChRM does not compete with a church management system. It works on a different layer. The clearest way to see the difference is side by side.

Both layers matter. A church needs its operational system to run, and it needs a way to see relational health before a quiet member becomes a former one. FlockConnect is a ChRM: it complements the ChMS a church already runs and does not replace it.

Why relationships are the missing operational layer

The case is not sentimental, it is one of the more durable findings in how people join and stay in churches. Flavil Yeakley's assimilation research, carried to pastors by Win and Charles Arn, pointed to relational integration in a new member's first months as the clearer signal of who stays, a finding echoed across decades of church-growth literature. People who form real friendships put down roots. People processed through events but never joined to anyone tend to drift, often without a word.

That layer is exactly what an operations system cannot see, because friendship does not show up on an attendance report or a giving statement. It is the gap a ChRM exists to close. The fuller version of this argument is in why FlockConnect is the world's first ChRM, and the working definition of the relationship itself is in what a church connection is.

What a ChRM actually does

FlockConnect keeps the category deliberately narrow: do the relational layer well, and leave operations to the system built for them. In practice that is a small, honest feature set.

  • A per-person connection and isolation view that a pastor reads to see who is rooted and who is drifting.
  • Collie, an advisory assistant that can surface who looks isolated and draft a note or a next step. It never sends a message, writes to a record, or acts on its own. A person reviews and approves every action.
  • A pastoral interaction log, so a call, a visit, or a conversation is recorded and not lost between the people doing the caring.
  • Care shared across a team, so the work of noticing absence does not rest on one pastor.
  • A native, two-way Planning Center integration, with CSV import for any other church management system.

It is pastor-facing, so members never log in. It rides on top of the operational system a church already uses: a church on Planning Center connects through the official two-way Planning Center integration, and a church on any other system brings its people in by CSV import.

Where to start

A church does not adopt a ChRM to replace anything. It adds the relational layer once caring for people by memory and spreadsheet has outgrown what one mind can hold. FlockConnect is priced by church size, with a free trial, so the people a church serves are never the line item.

See who is connected, and who is drifting.

FlockConnect adds the relational layer on top of the church management system a church already runs. Priced by church size, never per seat, with a free trial.
